Al Oliva is an architectural designer, cultural producer, and educator based in San Francisco. Her current work traces histories of land and material, focusing on left-overs and decay.
Al holds a Master of Architecture from UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design (CED) and a Certificate in New Media from UC Berkeley’s Center for New Media (BCNM). At CED she was awarded the Chester Miller Fellowship for her thesis Embodied Waste, the Branner Travel Fellowship for her project Test Tiles, and the Design Process Award for the project EXP:0/0/0 (w/ Hue Bui). In 2023 she received a Graham Foundation Organizational Grant for the project Arkisnak (w/ Isabelle de Metz). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from The College of William & Mary where she completed an independent study on Madelon Vriesendorp’s paintings.
Al now works as a freelance educator, and has worked for UC Berkeley’s School of Education, Room One Thousand, Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts, and Furthermore.
